 Local
government in East Grand Bahama is centered in the settlement
of High Rock, which is approximately 40 miles east of Freeport,
and 20 miles from the easternmost settlement of McLeans Town.
Other settlements of East Grand Bahama include Rocky Creek,
Pelican Point, Gambier Point and Freetown.
For many years the United States Navy maintained a missile tracking station
near High Rock, which was used mainly in connection with NASA's
Lunar Program of the 1960s. The station is now used as a base
of operations for a film studio, which is scheduled to conduct
filming for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean II & III
in September 2005.
